Florida Scrub Jay - The Website Icon

The threatened Florida Scrub-Jay is the only bird species endemic to Florida. Scrub-jays live in scrub habitats in the highest and driest parts of Peninsular Florida in areas with low oak shrubs, patches of sand, and few trees.  Historically, wildfires used to keep scrub shrubby.  Now, controlled burns and other habitat management are necessary to maintain quality habitat for scrub-jays and other specialized scrub plants and animals.
