President Jack Hailman called the General Business Meeting of the Florida Ornithological Society (FOS) to order at 2:04 p.m.  President Hailman welcomed the attendees to the fall 2006 FOS meeting.

Keith Winsten of the Brevard Nature Alliance welcomed FOS to Titusville on behalf of his organization.  Keith discussed the work that Brevard Nature Alliance does including organizing the birding festival and working to preserve scrub habitat in the county.  He asked about exciting sightings during the morning field trips.  He was pleased to hear about a Black-throated Green Warbler spotted on one trip.  Keith also recognized Neta Harris with Brevard Nature Alliance for the tremendous work she had done organizing and providing accommodations for the meeting.

Pam Bowen announced that the Special Book Sale and Silent Auction would continue during the afternoon meeting.  Sales had already been brisk and she encouraged attendees to purchase books.  She stated that the winning bids for the silent auction books would be announced at the banquet and that those books could be picked up immediately after the banquet.  She thanked Bill and Helen Dowling, long-time FOS members, for their generous donation of the books to the society.  Their donation had been of great assistance in avoiding an annual dues increase.

Vice president Soo Whiting announced the spring FOS meeting would be held in conjunction with Georgia Ornithological Society, April 20-22, 2007, at Jekyll Island, Georgia.  She reported that Reed Bowman, from the Archbold Biological Station, would be coordinating the fall 2007 FOS meeting which will be held in the Lake Placid/Sebring area.  Soo also announced that sign-up sheets for Sunday’s field trips would be out front at the banquet that evening at Dixie Crossroads.

President Hailman thanked Soo Whiting for all of her hard work setting up the FOS meetings.

At 2:10 p.m., President Hailman ended the meeting and relinquished the podium to Eric Stolen, moderator of the scientific paper session.
